LYC Happenings

3 Jun

I am saddened to inform the membership of the passing of Glenn Kretchman on June 1, 2021.  Glenn joined LYC in 2006 and, along with Gail, has been an active member ever since.  Gail informed me that a celebration of Glenn’s life will take place at the LYC on Sunday June 27, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Gail at 11733 N. Custer Rd., Free Soil  MI   49411.

LYC TAMS Training FYIYou may take the TAMS online training anytime.  However, the cutoff date for LYC reimbursement ($15 ) for  successful TAMS ONLINE training is June 13th. Thanks to the 40+ LYC members  who have signed up already. From the LYC House Committee

The Ludington Yacht Club has an AED.

AED is an acronym for Automated External Defibrillator.  AEDs are used to revive someone from sudden cardiac arrest. This usually occurs when a disruption in the heart’s electrical activity causes a dangerously fast heartbeat (ventricular tachycardia) or a fast and irregular heartbeat (ventricular fibrillation).
AEDs offer a way to save a life.
The AED is located between the bathroom and the bar, hanging on the wall near the furnace.  Please feel free to inspect the AED.  Take it off the wall, unzip the case, open it, And LOOK at it to become familiar with it. (Please do not test the unit). Put it back when finished.
Stating the obvious….  We hope that we never have to use the AED at LYC.  But if needed, we have one, and hope that members know where it is, and how to use it properly.

SAILING NEWS!!After a long hiatus, the Chieftain Cup sailboat race between Pentwater and Ludington is being resurrected.  Organizers of the event, Ken Wierenga (LYC) and Dave Bluhm (PYC) announce the tentative plans as follows:

  • Friday July 16 with a 2pm start. Racing from Pentwater to Ludington. Boats would be invited to stay the night at LYC.
  • Saturday July 17 start to be announced. Racing from Ludington to Pentwater. Boats invited to raft up at PYC.
  • a potential cruising regatta to follow on Sunday or Monday, possibly to Portage Lake Or Frankfort.

All Pentwater and Ludington skippers are invited to participate. Also, any LYC member wishing to crew is invited to do so.  Please contact Ken who will work with skippers to place willing crew.
