24 May

First, thanks to Steve Wegener for sealing the docks!!!

Second, tonight is the alternate Tuesday in support of LYSS.  On the menu is Great Lakes Salmon bites, french fries and coleslaw for a donation of $10.  Serving from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m.  This also will occur every other Tuesday throughout the season.

Third, from your Race Committee and Committee Chair Tim Tibbits:
LYC friends,After a long and dismal winter I am excited for the start of the 2022 sailing season. We have a full season of activities planned this year along with an exciting improvement project planned.First the racing:Our Thursday Night Beer can series will start on June 2nd. We will follow the same format and scoring system as in years past.

  • Scoring explained:
    • Race order of finish will be determined using LMPHRF handicap method.
    • Season will consist of 15 races
    • Bloomer Cup and Chieftain cup will count as 2 of the races
    • Scoring will be low to high in finish order.
    • We will allow 4 races to be discarded from scoring. *This may be adjusted depending on how many races are cancelled.
    • DNS boats will receive a score of number of boats started +2
    • DNF boats will receive a score of number of boats started +1
  • It is strongly recommended that all participants in the Thursday races possess a valid PHRF certificate.
  • A PHRF certificate will be required for participation in the Bloomer and Chieftain Cup races. This requirement may be waived by approval of the race committee.
    • Getting a certificate is a fairly simple and inexpensive online process. We have a number of members who will be more than willing to help fill out your forms.
  • For our non-nautical members we would love to find volunteers to assist with recording start and finish times from the pierhead. Contact Tim Tibbits for details.

The Bloomer Cup will take place on our traditional date of the Saturday following Labor Day (9/10/2022) with all the fanfare, great dinner and entertainment to follow. The Chieftain Cup (Pentwater Yacht Club) race is tentatively scheduled for the weekend of August 5-6. We had great participation in this race last year and looking for even more members to join this year. We are also looking at additional opportunities to partner with our friends from the south.
Temporary Race Marks

  • The race committee is actively pursuing adding two temporary race marks. The marks will be placed approximately 1.5 miles to the south and 1.5 miles to the north of the pierhead. Adding these two marks will greatly increase our flexibility of course setting and add some much needed variety to our races.
