This Week at LYC

11 May

The Kentucky Derby Party last Saturday was a huge success for the kickoff event of the season!  Thirty-seven members and guests turned out for a great time hosted by Laurie & Stan Willson with assistance from Holly & John Quiring, Joanne & Wally Sadosty, Carol Nelson, Anne Flutur, and Bobbie Clingan.  Hats off to the crew for an outstanding dinner and party!  And speaking of hats, congratulations to Marsha LaHaye, the winner of the hat contest and bragging rights for the next year.  As I understand, dinner was a bit delayed due to a flukey oven but judging from the bar receipts, no one minded too much😂.  I hope someone placed an online $100 bet on Rich Strike to win, I know I didn’t!

A quiet week in store.  Friday Night Cocktails at the Club this Friday the 13th, nothing superstitious about this; bring an appetizer if you wish and see who dares venture out!  Gathering starts about 5:30 p.m.
Looking ahead, LYSS fundraisers the next two Tuesdays. First on May 17, FERGBURGS serving from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  $10 donation gets you a famous Fergburg and choice of 2 sides (slaw, potato salad, cream corn, baked beans).  This will be followed on Tuesday May 24 with deep fried Great Lakes salmon, french fries, & cole slaw serving again from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for a $10 donation. In between is another Friday cocktails at the Club on the 20th and again on the 27th.June 4 is the Mexican Dinner hosted by Mark & Patty Otto and crew…more information will follow on this popular dinner.  More information will also follow for the Swiss Steak dinner scheduled for June 11.

BartenderTraining:  In past years, we have offered Techniques of Alcohol Management (TAM) training. Once certified, you are able to “open the bar” at any time and serve drinks to other members (including yourself).  This training was offered through the Michigan Licensed Beverage Association, to which LYC belongs, at $30 per person.  The Club picked up half the cost with members fronting the other $15.  There is another option.  You may take an online course (https://servingalcohol.com/michigan-alcohol-seller-server-course/) for only $12.50, saving you and the Club money.  If you opt for this, we ask that you print out the completion certificate and card and leave them on the bar for our bartender, Becky, to file so it is readily available should we be asked. Certification is valid for 3 years.

Driveway:  Bob Kesling recently graded the drive and parking lot to smooth out low spots and potholes (Thanks much Bob!).  PLEASE, PLEASE drive SLOWLY when entering and exiting the drive and lot.  Doing so will help to keep the potholes from recurring soon.
Door Lock Combination:  We will not change the door lock combination until all construction on the addition is complete.  Until then the current combination will remain.  We will announce the change (if) when it occurs.

Docks:  A work crew of Dave Golder, Alex Zaydel, and Gary Ferguson activated water to the docks the other day.  After addressing a few issues (broken valve, meter, etc.) they report all is in working order including the pump out.  Boaters are reminded to ALWAYS turn the water off at the dock after using.  This will help eliminate a surprise water bill from the city!
Addition:  This is nearing completion.  However, we cannot use it until approved by the Michigan Liquor Control Commission.  We have an interview scheduled with an Enforcement Investigator on May 17 to go over everything.  Hopefully approval will follow soon thereafter.

Membership: Please welcome new members voted in at the May 3 meeting:  Don & Jody McGahan, Nancy Ceton, Ros & Sheryl Stovall, Larry & Chris Conroy, Andy Snider & Christine Crumbaugn, Rob & Lynne Patterson, Keith & Victoria Marcus, and Brain & Sue Gorzynski.
