Bloomer Cup Week

6 Sep

This is Bloomer Cup week!  We haven’t been able to do much this year but this should be fun!  But before the weekend…

Tuesday, September 8: Alternate Tuesday fundraiser for the sailing school.  Gail Kretchman, Jill Kaines and crew are serving up “Potato Pigs” consisting of a baked potato topped with BBQ pulled pork, cheese, bacon, and green onion with sour cream on the side along with a side salad for $10 per person.  Since this is a fundraiser for LYSS, membership card “punches” will not be honored; cash or check will accepted.  Serving from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m..  Order and pickup at the south kitchen door.  Seating outside on the deck, picnic tables, or bring your own chair & table for the yard.  Or, grab & go!  One person at a time (mask required) will be allowed through the west deck door to order from the bar.

Wednesday September 9:  Corona Cup Sailboat Racing series continues.  6:00 p.m. start.  If you wish to race or catch a ride, be at the club by 5:30 p.m.

BLOOMER CUP 2020 – Saturday September 12:

Dale Fitch, Race Chair, is still in need of volunteers for various aspects of the event.  Please contact him at Dale@LetsGoSail.com or call 231-425-0305 if you’d like to volunteer or if you have any questions.

The Bloomer Cup is scheduled for Saturday, September 12.  Because of the covid 19 pandemic, this year’s activities will be different from the past since we cannot have large groups inside the club.  The major differences are:

·         There will be no Friday night event although visiting sailors are welcome to arrive and dock at the  club; a LYC member will be available to direct you to available slips;

·         All events on Saturday, September 12 will be outside of the club;

·         In lieu of the normal dinner, we will have food available prepared by the Fergburger crew from the youth sailing  school at the normal cost of $10, card punches not honored for this benefit event.

            Fergburgs with choice of 2 of 4 sides; cole slaw, potato salad, baked beans, or Texas style cream corn and will be delivered in “togo” containers to consume outdoors or to take with.  Fergburgs will be served from about 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.  Bar available to ??? ;

.           Bar and food orders will be placed and delivered through westside clubhouse windows,

            Reminder – all drinks purchased from the club cannot be taken off club grounds including the docks;

·         Race entry fees will be a donation to the Youth Sailing School with LYC being reimbursed for  expenses of the race;

.          Masks will be required to order and pickup drinks and food, social distancing on club grounds will be monitored;

.         Masks on boats are up to the discretion of each boat captain.

Details are as follows:

·         The race will be scored using PHRF ratings with separate divisions for boats with spinnakers and boats using only main and jibs.

·         There will be separate starts for both divisions; the first race division starts at 1:30 p.m..

·         Deadline for entries is 10:00 on September 12th.

·         Boats not having valid PHRF certificates for 2020 will be assigned ratings.  Assigned ratings are not subject to appeal.

·         The racecourse will be a triangle course northwest of the Ludington north pier.

·         Entry forms are available at the Ludington Yacht Club or available at Dale@LetsGoSail.com or calling 231-425-0305.

·         Dockage will be available for participating boats at LYC from Friday to Monday at no charge

·         Skippers meeting at 11 am on Sept 12 on the LYC grounds.  Race instructions will be posted at LYC.

As always, all sailors are welcome to participate, so spread the word to area sailors.  This is intended as a fun event to promote our sport and celebrate the approaching end of the 2020 sailing season.  Everyone is invited to the Fergburg dinner following the race.

A reminder from the House Committee
Fellow LYC members have arrived at  the clubhouse only to find the building unsecured, and messy.Liability issues of an unsecured building cannot be overstated, and nobody likes to arrive to a messy situation.
Please be informed and reminded of the following considerations of the LYC Clubhouse.
1. Please ensure that the LYC Clubhouse is Clean and SECURED when you depart.  A. Ensure ALL doors and locked and latched. (They automatically lock when properly closed) B. Turn off all lights C. Turn off the Ceiling fans D. Close and Lock ALL windows. E. Do Not leave any food to rot in the trash bins IN the clubhouse (place waste in outside bins) F. Clean-up any mess that you may have made. G. Ensure that  the TV and Cable box are off
2. If using the Grills.  Please burn / scrape / clean the grates clean when finished.
