Secretary Denny

Good afternoon friends.

I have to say if you weren’t out on the big lake last night you missed a great one!

The field of 5 were treated to a very steady NW wind of 12 kts with gusts reaching 15 kts for the duration of the race. Steady 2′ waves accompanied the great wind.

Although a reach-reach out to the weather buoy would have been exhilarating, the decision was made to run south to the project and I did not regret a single minute of it.

There is nothing like the excitement and beauty of close racing action on the big lake and last night did not disappoint. Although the Admiral may beg to differ when it comes to some of the full speed cross tacks.

When the dust had settled and the numbers tabulated, here is what the order of finish looked like:

Boat Place Elapsed Time Corrected Time
Harmony 1 1:29:10 1:12:58
Adelicia 2 1:29:40 1:14:22
Poppy T 3 1:33:26 1:18:08
Dragon Fly 4 1:37:00 1:26:12
Seize the Day 5 2:58:00 2:35:30

Fantastic job to all the captains & crews:

Harmony- Jeff Laman, Bill Walker

Adelicia Connelly Bowling, Jeff Koup, James Kuk

Poppy T-  Shelley Tibbits, Tim Tibbits, Bridget Hubbard, Dick Hubbard, Scott Lakari

Dragonfly- Gary Ferguson, Zach Buskirk, Mallory Shinn, Dave Golder

Seize the Day- Allen Olson, Jim Webster

Special recognition this week goes to Dragonfly and Adalecia for adding extra crew members that may not otherwise have had an opportunity to get out sailing. Getting more people exposed to the sport we love will ensure the future of our club and sailing in Ludington.

Also wanted to recognize Allen Olsen and Jim Webster for “gutting out” the entire course despite the fact that meant finishing in the dark. As a matter of fact I feel that Allen and Jim were the biggest winners of the night as they got to spend almost 2 more hours sailing than any of the rest of us!

As always, thanks for coming out.

See you all next week.
