As the end of winter is now in sight, we need to think of the upcoming summer. We have a couple of events in the planning stages that you should put on your calendar as follows:
We’ve set the date for the Bloomer Cup, which will be September 9th. We will have an informal gathering on Friday night, featuring food and an outdoor movie with the race on Saturday. We will have a steak dinner and live entertainment afterward.(after the race)
We’re going to make a serious attempt to get more of our boats out on the water this year. One of the things we’re going to do is to provide a vehicle (to) match skippers and crew (people intersted in sailing). If you’d like to sail but don’t have a boat, or have a boat and would like crew for racing, or just (go) sailing, we’re asking that you contact us and we’ll try to make that happen. You may send your inquiries to Connelly Bowling (connellyb@gmail.com) or Dale Fitch. We’re also going to have some informal clinics and practice sessions to deal with topics like crew training and heavy weather sailing to help our members to sail better and be more safe.
Also, if you have a boat and are thinking about entering club races, you might want to consider getting a PHRF rating certificate (so your boat can be handicapped correctly). The certificate is available from Lake Michigan PHRF and is available online or I can give you one. This is something that you should do if you’re thinking of doing any racing, even at the club level. The cost is $75 .
This is just a preliminary notice of events, as our committee will be working in the next month or so to refine our plans and get more information out to you. Please mark the dates on your calendar and plan to participate. LYC is your club.
