First up this week is the September membership meeting on Tuesday September 7 beginning at 7:30 p.m.
But before that, earlier on the same Tuesday, is the LYSS fundraiser Potato Pigs, a loaded baked potato, salad & dessert (not including the beer pictured), serving from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for a $10 donation.

Thursday September 9 is the weekly “Beer Can” sailboat race. Racers start to gather at the club at 4:30 p.m. or so for a 5:30 p.m. pierhead start.

BLOOMER CUP WEEKEND – September 10-12
Begins Friday September 10 with Cocktails at the Club beginning around 5:00 p.m.  Please bring an appetizer to share if you desire and welcome visiting sailors.
The Bloomer Cup Sailboat Race is on Saturday September 11 (alternate bad weather date is Sunday September 12).  The Captain’s meeting is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. and the first start is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.  Entry forms are available to download from the documents to download and all sailors and boats are welcome.

The traditional Steak Fry, open to all members and guests, follows the race.  Steaks are provided along with baked potato, salad, vegetable, & dessert for $20 per steak.  Preparation of the steak is a “grill your own” affair on the back deck of the club.  Food will be available beginning about 5:00 p.m.  The steak fry dinner will occur on Saturday regardless if the Bloomer Cup goes or is postponed to Sunday due to weather.

Live music starts at 6:00 p.m. and continues into the evening.

We have a special liquor license for the weekend that allows non-members to purchase beer, wine, and spirits across the bar. 

This is a perfect opportunity to remind everyone that our liquor license only allows consumption of  beer, wine, & spirits purchased across the LYC bar to areas inside the clubhouse and outside on the premises that is bounded by the seawalls (west, north & east) and to the south by the parking lot; note the docks are outside this area and drinks purchased at the bar cannot be consumed there as well. Consumption of beer, wine, or spirits purchased elsewhere is NOT allowed in these areas.  You can, however, bring and consume beer, wine, & spirits purchased elsewhere to your boat and on the docks.  Please inform all guests and visiting sailors of these rules.  Fines to the Club for violation of this basic Michigan Liquor License Control law can be significant monetarily and result in the suspension of our license for a period of time.

Fergburgs return Tuesday September 14 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.

Also, member Alan Buck is relocating and is selling his Catalina 25 sailboat.  A flyer is attached.  Please contact Alan if you, or anyone you know, might be interested.

August 22 LYC Happenings

Great Brat & Corn Dinner last evening.  Thanks to Laurie & Stan Willson and Jackie & Pete Christensen for hosting along with their crew of Jo Johnson, Carolyn & Scott Dice, and Joanne & Wally Sodosty.  Also thanks to our “fill in” bartender Andy Hamilton.

The supply of blue (and white) LYC ball caps (donated by the Goodloe’s and the Shapleigh’s as fundraiser for the Sailing School) are back in stock!!!

Public Service Announcements:  The plastic wine glasses in use at the club are reusable!  We can wash them in the dishwasher.  Please do not toss them in the trash!! Also, LYC operates on a cash basis for the bar and dinner events.  We do not have the capability to accept credit cards.

Events this coming week:

Tuesday August 24 – Bob Kesling’s Salmon Bites (salmon courtesy of Andy Klevorn), french fries, and cole slaw serving from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. This is a $10 per person fundraiser in support of the sailing school.

Thursday August 26 – Sailboat racers start to gather at 4:45 p.m. (weather dependent).

Friday August 27 – Cocktails at the Club beginning about 5:30 p.m.


Saturday August 28 –  Beef Brisket dinner hosted by Rich & Beth Kirby and Tim & Andrea Large. The menu includes BEEF BRISKET (is there a need for anything else?), potato salad, baked beans, & corn bread.  There will be chips & salsa to munch on before dinner and Texas sheet cake after.  Social starts at 6:00 p.m. with dinner served at 7:00 p.m.  This is a $15 per person dinner.
