This Upcoming Week at LYC

11 Jun

What a great “Kickoff to Summer” cocktail party and fundraiser for the Ludington School Youth Resource Center last evening.  The Social committee (Gail Kretchman, Shelley Tibbits, & Guen Hultman) and their helpers (Scott Hultman, Peggi Bourke, Megan Hradel, Mary Jo Pung & Lynnette Nichols ) knocked this one out of the park…the appetizers & desserts were nothing short of amazing!

Mark Boon was on hand to inform everyone present what the LYC has meant to the Resource Center over the years and what our generosity has allowed them to do in assisting local youth with basic needs.  All of us I’m sure never give much thought to our next meal, purchasing socks, a new shirt for a special occasion, warm boots, gas for the car, or something even more basic, a toilet seat. Mark once told us of a student who asked, “Mr. Boon, do you suppose the school would buy me a new toilet seat?  The one I have at home is broken and it pinches whenever I sit down.”  Mark took him straight out to Home Depot and let the student pick one out.  Students in our area have many needs.
As background for our newer members, LYC “adopted” the Ludington School Youth Resource Center as the beneficiary of our “Christmas in October” fundraiser in 2017.  Every year since we have supported this important program.  Beginning last year, we started the “Kickoff to Summer” cocktail party with expressed intent to “up our game” in our support to the Resource Center.  It worked beyond our wildest dreams.  Through the generosity of our members, we were able to give the Resource Center $26,000 in 2022. That is a lot of basic needs met.

Thanks to all who attended last night and generously donated in person or by mail.  But it was only the formal beginning of our 2023 drive.  If you were unable to attend, please consider donating to this important, local cause.   Donations can be mailed to LYC’s  PO Box 132 attention LYRC.  The social committee will also continue to have a donation box at the LYC bar during Friday night cocktails, Saturday dinner functions, Ferg Burgs, and alternate Tuesday events throughout the summer. Checks should be made payable to the

Ludington Schools Youth Resource Center.
