LYC Happenings July 5 to July 16

4 Jul

Next week – Tuesday July 5 is the General Membership meeting at 7:30 p.m.  Preceding the meeting from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. is the alternate Tuesday LYSS fundraiser featuring Great Lakes Salmon bites, fries, and coleslaw for $10.

Saturday July 9 Event

When the Social Committee proposed a fundraising campaign in 2022 for the Ludington High School Student Resources Center, they chose a $5,000 goal to be collected over several social events during the season.  Little did they expect the generosity of the LYC membership would reach, and vastly surpass, that goal following the initial event, the “Kick-off to Summer” cocktail party last month.  So far, donations to the Resources Center total nearly $26,000!   To show their appreciation to donors and the membership, the committee is planning to have a Roast Pork dinner on Saturday July 9 at no cost to attendees (except for the cash bar of course).  The menu (roast pork, cheesy potatoes, fried cabbage, & assorted baked desserts) has been donated and will be prepared by LYC volunteers.  Social gathering at 6:00 p.m., Dinner served at 7:00 p.m. Attendance will be limited to the first 72 reservations.  Please call or text Sandy Gomez (231-690-6224) to make a reservation no later than Thursday July 7.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to donate but still desire, donations will be accepted that evening.

Friday & Saturday July 15 & 16.  Steve Miller and crew will be hosting a Lake Perch dinner both nights.  Cost will be $15 per person cash or punch combination.  Social starts at 6:00 p.m. with dinner served at 7:00 p.m. Menu to include Lake Perch, hush puppies, cole slaw, twice baked potatoes & dessert.   Please contact Steve by phone or text at 231-690-1520 or via email (millersteve919@charter.net) if you can lend a hand.

Reservations are now being taken:  please call or text Sandy at 231-690-6224.  If you text or leave a message please include full name and which night you wish to reserve.

Something new in August:

Call for Artists, and Patrons of the Arts.

Please join us on Sunday August 21st from 1pm to 5pm for the LYC Art Show/ACS Fundraiser.

Luci Lavis and Marina McGee started floating an idea a few weeks ago, and the initial response has been inspiring!  Cancer has touched nearly every member of our club, so we decided to combine our love for art and the opportunity to help combat this insipid disease.  Entry fees and 15% of all sales will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

So far we have a tentative list of 6-8 artists (please call us to formally reserve a space, see below) slated to show their work, including fabric arts, watercolor, drawing, acrylics, jewelry, glass artwork, dioramas, photography, and wood art.  We have room for a total of 10 artists (a few more if the addition becomes available.)

Refreshments will include White and Red Wine, $2.00 per glass; and Mimosas, $3.00 each, donated by Jim and Marina McGee, proceeds of which will go to the American Cancer Society as well.  Also, Cheese and Crackers will be available donated by Luci & Denny.

Patrons will be welcomed from 1pm to 5pm.  Artists can begin setting up at 10am.

Artist’s Entry Fee ($20) will cover 1 round table and floor space for display. Contact Marina McGee (231-266-2018) or Luci Lavis (231-843-1561 to reserve a display area, or for more details.

Stay tuned for future announcements.

Thank you,

Marina and Luci

Other stuff:  We have been in contact with the City of Ludington and have been assured we will continue to have access to the Club and LYSS (as well as Copeyan Park & boat launch) throughout the Washington Street construction project although there may be a day when access is limited; we should receive a couple days notice if and when this would occur.
