Upcoming Events at LYC – September 4th 2023 + Looking Ahead

4 Sep

HAPPY LABOR DAY EVERYONE! The weather today appears to be perfect for the traditional last hurrah of summer.

Tomorrow, Tuesday September 5 is FERGBURGS

in support of the Sailing School. $10 per person donation gets you the best burger in town and choice of sides (potato salad, cole slaw, baked beans, or Texas style creamed corn). First burgers come off the grill at 5:30 p.m. and continue until 7:00 p.m.

Following Fergburgs, is the September General Membership Meeting that will convene at 7:30 p.m.

BLOOMER CUP WEEKEND

– This is LYC’s signature event of the season for ALL MEMBERS (not just sailors!) and guests. Please review the following announcement from the race committee for details.

But in short,

Friday September 8

is our normal “Cocktails at the Club” but in addition, it is a welcome for visiting sailors arriving in advance of Saturday’s race. There will be an abundant supply of pizza available for all beginning about 5:30 p.m. But as usual, bring an appetizer if the mood strikes you😀.

Saturday September 9

is Race Day starting at 10:30 a.m. with coffee and doughnuts at the club, followed by the Skippers meeting at 11:30 a.m., and the race starting at 1:30 p.m.

An awards ceremony will follow the race at 5:30 p.m.

Dinner and live musical entertainment will start at 6:00 p.m. and continue until 9:00 p.m. On the menu are “burn your own” steaks, coordinating sides, and dessert, all for $20 per person.

The bar will be available to everyone this weekend, members and non-members alike. Two simple rules to follow: (1) Alcohol purchased in the clubhouse cannot be taken onto the docks or off club grounds and (2) personal alcohol from boats cannot be brought from boats & docks onto club grounds. These are Michigan Liquor Control Commission rules.

Bloomer Cup news
The registration forms are starting to trickle in.
I want to stress that the race and club are open to all, from the “experts” to the first timers. More boats=More fun. Tell your friends, neighbors, and dock mates to get out there. Hoping for a great turnout.

We are still looking for a volunteer committee boat for race day. Please reach out to Tim Tibbits if you can help. Information and registration forms attached to this post.
