Upcoming Events at LYC – August 1st 2023 + Looking Ahead

Good Sunday Afternoon LYC friends! Celebrate this International Day of Friendship and also enjoy National Cheesecake Day by sharing some with a friend. Sure beats the heck out of celebrating National Climb a Mountain Day in my honest opinion!

Tuesday, August 1 is the “Alternate Tuesday” in support of the Youth Sailing School.

Menu offering includes: Shredded pork or grilled chicken breast served on a toasted bun with a variety of condiments available, tater tots, and special ingredient coleslaw, all for $10 per person. Serving from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. All proceeds go to the Sailing School. Skip cooking Tuesday dinner, come down to the club, enjoy some yachting camaraderie, and support LYSS. Members and their guests are welcome.

Also on Tuesday – AUGUST GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING convenes at 7:30 p.m.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY!

Want to help stage a dinner (or 2)? There will be a short meeting on Wednesday August 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the clubhouse to organize the upcoming shrimp dinners to take place on Friday & Saturday evenings August 18 & 19. Several members have already stepped up but more help is needed. Please attend if you have an interest in helping out your LYC. You can call Gail Kretchmen for additional information.

Thursday August 3 will see the weekly sailboat races out on the big lake. Watch for Wednesday’s announcement.

Friday August 4 will be “Cocktails at the Club” as usual. Bring an appetizer to share if you wish and enjoy a casual time at LYC.

Tuesday August 8 – Fergburgs from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m.

Looking ahead:

The next dinner event will be Wing Ding Dango on Saturday August 12 hosted by Greg & Michelle Moyers. Information to follow next week.

The second annual Art Show & Sale to benefit the American Cancer Society will take place on Sunday August 20. Volunteers are needed to help with set up, take down, and clean up. Also needed are members willing to provide entries for the bake sale and to staff a booth. I’m certain that we have a whole lot of great bakers out there with some fabulous recipes whose contributions would make for a great sale and addition to the art show & sale. To volunteer, contact Luci Lavis or Marina McGee.

Upcoming Events at LYC

What a great Chieftain Cup weekend it was. Friday saw 5 boats race up from Pentwater and then on Saturday, 2 more boats joined the fleet for a 7 boat buoy race offshore of Ludington. After the race, and allowing ample time for post-race camaraderie, the social committee crew staged a fried chicken dinner for everyone. An awards ceremony followed dinner (results are attached). Thanks to the racing and social committees for organizing this successful event and to Becky who ensured that everyone kept well hydrated!

ON TAP THIS WEEK

Tuesday July 25

FERGBURGS – To support the sailing school. Grilling starts at 5:30 and continues until 7:00 p.m. $10 per person gets you the best burger in town and a choice of sides (potato salad, cole slaw, beans, or cream corn).

Thursday July 27

Sailboat racing.

Friday, July 28

“Cocktails at the Club” starting about 5:30 p.m. Bring an appetizer to share if you wish and just kick back and enjoy the informal atmosphere.

Saturday, July 29

Enjoy West Shore Bank’s Rhythm & Dunes concert at Waterfront Park. Rock the 90’s USA: The Official 90’s Rock Tribute. Food Vendors are available starting at 5 PM and music begins at 6 PM.
