Tuesday July 3:  Coney Dogs in support of LYSS. Serving from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 (before the membership meeting).  Hot dogs, coney sauce, diced onions and condiments available.  Dogs will be $5.00 per person for up to two.  Bring a dish to share if you wish.  This is a regular Tuesday event on alternate Tuesday’s from Fergburgs. 
 
Tuesday July 4:  Bring a dessert down to the Club and watch the fireworks.

Sailing, Sailing, Sailing:  
Dennis McNeil reports that a friend of his from Bay City is very active in multi hull racing.  The group is using Lake Michigan at  Manistee (July 28-29) and Muskegon (Aug 11-12).  The website is cramsailing.com  If anyone is interested in watching multi hull sailboat races,check it out.
Training opportunity:
LYC is sponsoring a USCG Auxiliary class ” Suddenly in Command” on Sunday, July 8 beginning at Noon.  Cost will be $15 per person and will last a couple of hours. Please respond to this message if you wish to attend or call Gary Ferguson (231 690-3710) for further details. The course overview follows:

The captain becomes incapacitated or falls overboard; you purchase a new boat and step aboard for the first time. You are Suddenly In Command.  This boating safety primer is designed for those not generally at the helm, and will help you to “be prepared” with the basics in case of an emergency.

You will learn about your vessel, including nomenclature and operating principles including starting the engine. Also included are descriptions of what causes boating mishaps and how to minimize them, basic boat handling and what equipment should be on board.

Literature contains many horror stories about a passenger, who does not know how to start the engine or operate the radio, watching in horror as a strong wind blows the boat away faster than a captain who has fallen overboard can swim.

Misfortune occurs in seconds, and you have the rest of your life to be grateful that you knew what to do because you were prepared.

Wednesday Evening Race Schedule

The second Wednesday night race will be Wednesday, July 18th. This will be a regular Wednesday evening event (save for July 4 and 11). Notice of the race will be posted at LYC. The race is planned to start from the club or from the south pier, racing to the weather buoy west of the lighthouse, rounding the buoy (leaving it to starboard) and returning to the harbor. The course may be modified due to wind and weather conditions at the time.

Start will be at 6:00 PM per GPS time. Brief skipper’s meeting at 5:30 PM.

Please indicate your interest by signing the sheets posted on the bulletin board. Each skipper should enter the name of the boat and the boat manufacture or design. You can also indicate if you need or would accept additional crew. Make certain to enter your contact information so that the race committee can contact you in advance of the race.

If you don’t have a boat but would like to crew, there is also a “Crew Looking for a Ride” sign up posted at the club. Please sign, provide your phone and e-mail contact and indicate your experience level on the sign up form. We will try to match crew up to race entrants to accommodate as many of the skippers as possible.

This is supposed to be a fun even and an opportunity to blow some of the algae off the bottom of those boats, so please participate. If there is not adequate interest indicated on the sign- up sheets by noon on Wednesday, the event will be cancelled, so step up to the plate and sign up. Get out there and celebrate summer.

Because of July 4th and the Badger Flotilla, the next Wednesday night race will
be July 18th.

There is still time:  TAM (Techniques of Alcohol Management) training class will be offered tomorrowMonday June 25, at 11:00 a.m.  Cost is $15 (club picks up the other $15).  This training and certification is required if you wish to open the bar and purchase and/or serve alcoholic drinks at times other than formal events.  This is the really important part;  all existing certifications have expired!  If you have not done so already, please respond to this message indicating your intent to attend.  This may be the only training session offered at LYC this year.  Questions can be directed to Kaye (231 590-2259 or kayescare@charter.net) .

Tuesday May 29:  The second Fergburg of the season is Tuesday May 29.  Gary Ferguson’s famous burgers will be served beginning at 5:30 p.m. and the grill closes precisely at 7:00 p.m.  Bring a complementary dish to share if you wish.  Burgers are $5.00 each and proceeds go the Ludington Youth Sailing School (LYSS).  Fergburgs are an every other Tuesday event throughout the summer.

Saturday June 2 – Welcome to summer picnic:  At this event, we will be playing Corn Hole and Croquet (still looking for another croquet set, call Gail at 616 490-1255) at the Club.  The event will start with games at 1:00 p.m.  The bar will be open all afternoon.  Dinner will be served at 5:00 p.m.
The Menu is BBQ Chicken, Baked Beans, Potato & Macaroni Salad, Cole Slaw, Rolls and Ice Cream topped with Strawberries.  This will be a $10 meal.
