Upcoming Events at LYC – June 2nd 2024 + Looking Ahead

3 Jun

unnamedTime to celebrate an icon of the 1960’s Peace Movement with International Volkswagen Bus Day. Or, if you prefer something edible, it is also National Rotisserie Chicken Day as well as National Rocky Road Day.

DOCK MAINTENANCE:

A big shoutout of thanks to the volunteer crew of Les & Jill Kaines, Alex Zaydel, Tom Blackburn, Tony Lambert, Alan Buck, Jon Erickson, and Dave Golder who applied Thompson’s Water Seal to the docks recently. After two false starts due to weather conditions, the third time was a charm.

 THIS WEEK AT LYC:

TUESDAY JUNE 4: “Alternate Tuesday”

in support of the Youth Sailing School. Menu offering includes: Shredded pork or grilled chicken breast sandwiches (using a new, commercially prepared patty) served on a toasted bun with a variety of condiments available, french fries, and coleslaw, all for $12 per person (cost increase of 2 bucks is due to inflation). Serving from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. All proceeds go to the Sailing School. Skip cooking Tuesday dinner at home, come down to the club, enjoy some genuine LYC camaraderie, support the LYSS, and stay for the General Membership Meeting at 7:30 p.m. Members and their guests are welcome

TUESDAY JUNE 4: General Membership Monthly Meeting at 7:30 p.m.

In addition to the regular order of business is a proposed amendment to the LYC Bylaws to increase the membership cap from 200 memberships to 220 memberships. A favorable vote of two thirds of the members present at this meeting would allow this amendment to be passed on to the LYC Stockholders for their subsequent vote. The proposed amendment language is attached.

Another mid-week food offering:

The House, Social, & Racing committees together are going to present a different food offering each week in conjunction with the racing schedule. The plan is to have self-service food available beginning at 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. or until it runs out. All members are welcome, sailors and non-sailors alike. The first offering will be this Thursday June 6 and will include hot dogs & coney sauce, potato salad and chips. Cost will be $5 per person. Sailboat races start at 5:30 p.m. and finish around 7:00 p.m. or so. If the race is called due to weather, no food will be available and an announcement will be made via email.

Dinghys, did someone say Dinghys?

Commodore Steve Leedham did and is suggesting that for those boaters that are not sailors participating in Thursday night races, those with dinghys gather and have a flotilla around the Pere Marquette basin and marinas. Gather at the same time the sailors do and follow them out of the harbor. Should be a fun time!

FRIDAY JUNE 7:

Cocktails at the Club from 5:30 p.m. to ? Bring an appetizer if you wish or not. Stop by for this weekly informal gathering of members. It’s a great way to meet other LYC folks.

SUNDAY JUNE 9:

Paulette DeHommel invites everyone to the Pentwater Yacht Club from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. for Bill’s Celebration of Life.

Reminder:

Members who were certified 3 years ago under TAM as alcohol servers will see their certification expire in June. We encourage anyone who wishes to become a certified server, or renew their certification, to take this online course: https://servingalcohol.com/michigan-alcohol-seller-server-course/. Becoming certified allows you to open the bar and serve other members. In order to be legal, a certified server needs to be present in order for the bar to be open. The certification is valid for 3 years. If you take the course, please provide a copy of your certification to Becky or me so we can compile a list. Those who certified 3 years ago paid $15, so now it is at an inflation-busting price of $12.50!
